EUGENE, Ore. -- Matt Pavlovich of Team Kaos finished eighth in stage one of the Cat. 3 Eugene Celebration stage race on Saturday. The Maxon Road Race featured two laps on a course totaling 54 miles. A series of small attacks started the action, and a group of three escaped 10 miles into the race. At one point, the breakaway had a 2-plus-minute lead. The peloton got the gap down to one minute on the second lap, but it was a disorganized chase. "I tried to bridge up three times -- twice with a group and once solo," Pavlovich said. "Nothing." Kai Appleguist (Bike Boys of Boise) won with a 1:02 gap on the field. A 7.5-mile time trial is set for stage two on Sunday. |

PUERTO RICO -- A pair of top-five finishes was the reward for Team Kaos after a long day of climbing in the opening stage of the Coqui Dorado Cycliste International stage race. Dewey Dickey, on loan from Mercy-Specialized of Iowa City, won the masters elite division, while Marco Vasquez finished 15th. If not for a late flat, Vasquez would have ridden into second place at the end of the stage. Matt Landen attacked on the first of many climbs to split the field and pave the way to a fifth-place finish in the elite division. Matt Pavlovich finished 35th after the first stage. "There was a ton of climbing -- way more than last year," Pavlovich said. "It was insane." |

Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center riders assisted in the annual Girls Inc. bike rodeo last week, helping more than 100 girls learn the basics of bicycle safety. Doug Semisch, Gary Schmidt, Sean Kennedy and Suzanne Wilson were on hand to lead participants through a simulated street course and offer tips on riding. Girls Inc. is a national organization that dates to 1864, and has affiliates around the country. The Omaha chapter was formed in 1975, and has grown to offer educational and recreational programs to more than 300 girls per day in the summer months, and nearly 200 while school is in session.
